The Olympics aren't the only interesting and noteworthy event currently taking place in Canada. General Motors says it has shipped its fleet of 2011 Chevrolet Volt test vehicles to the cold and snowy climes of Kapuskasing, about 500 miles northwest of Toronto. Current temperature? A frigid 23-degrees Fahrenheit, or -5 Celsius.

This latest test session comes just months after The General ran its fleet of Volts through Death Valley (about 100 degrees F) and the mountains of Tennessee. Not surprising, really. After all, every new vehicle goes through a rigorous set of test cycles, and, as the first mass-production, mass-market extended-range electric vehicle ever attempted, it's of the utmost importance that GM gets this vehicle right the first time.

Chevrolet Recalls 22,000 Corvettes Because Roof Could Fly Off

General Motors recently recalled 22,000 Corvettes because the roof might fly off, and what do you think kicked the company into action? Complaints on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Web site from owners? Was it the safety agency itself, worried about the complaints? Concerns raised by the Federal Aviation Administration?

Nope. It was the Japanese Ministry of Land Infrastructure and Transport, unhappy about the problem on imported Corvettes, according to a letter from G.M. to the safety agency. That prompted G.M. to examine the problem in the United States and eventually inform the N.H.T.S.A. that it planned a recall.

The recall covers 2005-7 Corvettes and the 2006-7 Z06, all with a body-colored, painted roof. Chevy says the adhesive is not strong enough and may allow the roof panel to pull away from the frame. Chevy will replace the panel with a new design of a different material.

In part this is a recall of another recall. In 2006, G.M. recalled about 31,000 2005-6 Corvettes because, yes, the roof panel might peel away from the vehicle’s frame. Alan Adler, a spokesman for G.M., said the fix was to use a foam adhesive. That foam was then briefly used as vehicles were assembled in Bowling Green, Ky.

The 2010 Chevy Camaro is going be the car that brings back the charm and style of a sports car. Unlike the previous Camaro's, this new style Camaro is going to offer a smooth ride with a custom design. The horsepower of the Camaro promises to be a toy collectors dream come true. The LS-2 6.0 liter V8 offers up more horsepower than any other Camaro. The 400 horsepower engine is going to come in close behind the Corvette, but it will still have enough horsepower for the road. The car offers a smooth ride without any of the engine noise or any shaking and rattling that was apparent in older models.

When the 2010 Chevy Camaro comes out, it is going to have some competition from Ford and Dodge with the Mustang and Challenger, but it will still come out on top with the sporty look and superior horsepower. Whether you drive the manual transmission or the automatic transmission, reaching top speed will be no problem for those of us thrill seekers. If Chevy stays on plan with the independent rear suspension and MacPherson struts in the front, they should have a car capable of blowing away any other sports car in it's class!

If you owned a 1969 Camaro (or wished you did), you are definitely going to love the 2010 Chevy Camaro. It is destined to become equally as memorable and sought after as the 69 Camaro. Remembering back, collectors were willing to pay top dollar for a project car and cars in supreme condition went for more money than it costs you to buy a nice little house. It will be intriguing to see how the 2010 Chevy Camaro compares to the original in the long run.

Chevrolet Volt To Feature BlackBerry, iPhone App [American All-Electric Car To Use Mobile Phone App To Control 'Some' Car Functions]

The American car industry may be in trouble, but they’re still trying new things. Last week at the LA Auto Show, American car giant Chevrolet gave a press conference on the Chevy Volt, their all-electric car, and revealed a quick PowerPoint slide that the carmaker was developing a mobile phone app to control ’some car functions’.

A source within General Motors (Chevrolet’s parent company) leaked to Volt blog gm-volt.com and revealed that the app will first come out for the iPhone and BlackBerry, and will be released before the car’s release. The Volt mobile phone app will allow users to set specific schedules for their car’s recharging cycles, like at night when the power usage rates are lower.

The GM leak also said that some features from GM’s OnStar in-car safety system could be incorporated into the mobile app. gm-volt.com’s writer speculates that things like when the car is fully charged, and possibly a warning that the car is not plugged in could also be incorporated to the app.

No information on pricing was released. It would be nice if a free download code for the apps were quietly tucked inside the glove compartment when you took the car home from the dealership – but considering the state of the American car industry, they’ll probably charge you $9.99
